Budgeting for School Librarians

Session Details:

Session 1 :
Basic Accounting Terminology and Techniques
· Simon Bostrom
Led by Simon Bostrom of WYCAS (West Yorkshire Community Accounting Service). “WYCAS is a small charitable company operating mainly though not exclusively in West Yorkshire. Our overall aim is to develop the ability of voluntary and community sector organisations with charitable aims to manage their money more efficiently and effectively, enabling those organisations to better attain the objectives that they were set up to achieve.” Simon will ensure delegates learn accounting techniques and terminology, and have the chance to put ideas into practice!

Session 2:
Fundraising and Funds available to School Librarians
Based on YMLAC’s more detailed fundraising training programme which looks in more detail at writing funding applications, application planning and other basic fundraising skills, delegates will view literature and other resources so that you can have a look into fundraising issues in more detail independently and identify areas in which you would benefit from further training. You will become more enthusiastic and optimistic, GUARANTEED!

Basic Accounting Terminology and Techniques
· Simon Bostrom
At 18 Simon started a degree in Maths but learned to juggle and dropped out! He then set up a VW restoration business, which was sometimes fun but mostly 18 hour days for little remuneration. He then got involved with Playspace, where he became treasurer, which reconnected him with the joys of adding up numbers. This prompted him to sign up for a degree in accountancy and law at Bradford College, which he successfully completed. Experience at Playspace and at a charity accountants led him to WYCAS where he has worked since January 2003.

Almut Grüner

Almut has international experience of applying for funding for myriad programmes, such as farming in Germany and museums in the UK. Almut is passionate about fundraising and will bring this enthusiasm to her session.
